A unique winery in Portugal, where the wines are separated by different locations and grapes. It is really worth knowing, tasting and we had the pleasure of meeting Mr Luis Pato.

A visita foi exclusiva pra nós, feito pela Maria João, que não é a filha, mas foi excepcional em sua maneira de contar a história encantadora do Luis Pato, um rebelde que acreditou em suas ideias e hoje é um nome de respeito no resgate e identidade da região da Bairrada. O próprio esteve conosco em vários momentos da visita.
Adega Luis Pato was a highlight of the trip. The visit was exclusive to us, made by Maria João, who is not the daughter, but was exceptional in her way of telling the charming story of Luis Pato, a rebel who believed in his ideas and is now a respected name in the rescue and identity of the Bairrada region. He himself was with us at various times during the visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We turned up unannounced and were greeted enthusiastically by Maria Cafe, who in spite of being unprepared to receive any visitors - we were the first since the Easter break and the first since the relaxation of lockdown - gave us a great history of the grapes, the wines, Luis' approach. We were then honoured to meet the man himself.
I heartily recommend paying a visit but dont come unannounced, as they are hoping to regain their very busy pre-covid traffic!!
Oh and they will prepare vegetarian food with notice, and they have installed a wheelchair ramp which I was first to use!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Luis Pato makes fantastic wine with a scientific approach sure to his chemical engineering background. The wine here breaks the rules of traditional Portuguese wine making with surprising and delicious effect. Try their sulphur free wine, or their unique early harvest sweet wine. The tour is informative and generous, really providing a taste of the house.
