Daciano da Costa - From the form in space to the space of the form

SYNOPSIS

An exhibition that explores the holistic essence and pertinence of the work of designer Daciano da Costa – the greatest Precursor of Portuguese Design, curated by Le Brimet and Susana Chasse. An event organised by CLINK in a collaboration with the Daciano da Costa Atelier.

A never before seen showing, after twenty-one years,  that praises the author’s creative spirit and the embodiment of his ideas in modernist objects of different scales, industrial/manual processes and materialities, created in previously defined spatial-temporal intervals. Design for the context, made for a specific space but simultaneously capable of overcoming the initial assumptions, asserting itself as a work of design in its fullness - total, timeless and authentic design. An experience made of educational and sensorial contemporaneity that reveals the vital importance that design has on Daciano’s professional path, that turned the his practice academic and professional and his experimentation and constant mark of his authorship. The historical past remits us to the origin of thought and of action-achievement, the present is now defined by the re-editions coordinated by the Daciano da Costa Atelier, led by his daughter Inês Cottinelli. The future is the national and international affirmation of the legacy that is indissociable from Portuguese history and culture, immortalised and made real in shapes that fill spaces, houses, museums and public buildings - Man/Brand. A global experience organised and presented by CLINK, exhibiting original and reissued works, documentary, original drawings, photographs by the author, podcast and testimonies from the unequalled and irrepetible universe of Daciano da Costa, the creative individual that designed forms for space while simultaneously providing space for the assertion of forms.
