This place is so Japanese. They’ve even got traditional Japanese dining tables, the sitting style ones! The environment was decent and quiet. The most of the staffs are Japanese as well. I was impressed. The food was delicious, of course. I went there for the 12€ lunch deal twice. If you have a tight budget, come here for the lunch deal. It’s not just an authentic food experience but more a cultural experience.

Authentic Japanese restaurant in Barrio Alto. We went for lunch and chose the sushi and sashimi mix to start and the the salmon teriyaki. Service was impecable and efficient. The quality of the food was top notch.

Just go elsewhere. I don't understand other comments..place has aged badly, we were seated next to a samurai sculpture full of dust and dirty. Sushi are simply not sushi but used to the best Japanese chief in Paris maybe I am wrong. This place is simply an insult to Japanese food. It wants to appear Japanese but it is not. A complete fake and disgrace.

A Japanese person would have been offended. Fake wasabi made of horse radish. Mochi aren’t homemade, but store bought. And are filled with disgusting cow milk ice cream which wasn’t mentioned on the menu at all. I expected steamed mochi with soy milk cream or candied yuzu in the middle, as you would have it anywhere in Japan. Nigiri is pretty good but the only fish, available today, other than that nasty Norwegian aqua culture cancer salmon, was pretty tough and not tender as you would expect from a well cured fish. The place was incredibly cold. Toro was good, rice was great too. Unfortunately the experience is ruined by lack of Raffinesse. We paid 120€. As much as a Michelin star restaurant we went before, but it didn’t even come close.

FOOD POISONING The expectation to find an authentic Japanese restaurant was unfortunately bitterly disappointed. The first impression was already very sobering. It looks grubby and uncomfortable. And dirty, too. Renovation is long overdue. Normally we would have left the restaurant at this point, if it weren't for the many positive reviews and appealing photos on Google. Unfortunately, a fatal mistake, as it turned out later. Of the dishes ordered, the fish in miso and the onigiri were tasty. The sushi was nicely presented, but the taste was on the level of an average delivery service. The dessert ordered, mochi with yuzu, was a finished product out of the freezer. An absolute no-go for a place in this price range. The best came at the end. Food poisoning. The holiday is over. A disgrace for all Japanese chefs, who are known to attach great importance to hygiene in the preparation of their food.

This is a place with good food. Were in it twice and I want to say we will definitely come back. The first time was before the corona virus, everything was gorgeous. We sat at the bar and could watch how they cook. The second time we were when the corona virus appeared in the world, the experience was no worse. This institution respects the distance between the tables and all sanitary norms. The food did not spoil as tasty as the first time. good service and delicious food ?

Bonsai is one of the hallmarks of Japanese cuisine in Lisbon. It's not the cheapest, but it's definitely worth the price. Highly recommend the Takoyaki and Onigiri!
