Por entonces se encontraban en la Plaza del Mercado (do Açougue), junto a la iglesia de Santa María para, durante la Edad Moderna ocupar diversos edificios en la parte amurallada de la villa. Es a finales del XIX cuando se construye el actual ayuntamiento en el llamado Largo de São João, rebautizado en 1910 como Plaza de la República. El reloj que corona la fachada del edificio que da a esta plaza fue inaugurado en mayo de 1913. The council of Valença has its own houses since the Middle Ages. At that time they were in the Market Square (do Açougue), next to the church of Santa María, during the Modern Age occupy various buildings in the walled part of the town. It is at the end of the 19th century when the current town hall was built in the so-called Largo de São João, renamed in 1910 as Plaza de la República. The clock that crowns the facade of the building that overlooks this square was inaugurated in May 1913.
