Su aspecto ruinoso actual es un enigma, existiendo 2 teorías no excluyentes al respecto; que hubiese sido desmantelada y sus piedras reutilizadas en la cercana nueva iglesia parroquial o que haya sido un proyecto inacabado. Estilísticamente, muestra influencias del Románico de diferentes regiones de Portugal. Las figuras de serpientes y atlantes confrontadas en los capiteles de su portada son similares a los que se encuentran en las iglesias de Travanca (Amaraes) y Abragão (Penafiel). Los troncos diédricos de sus vanos remiten a iglesias de Oporto, mientras que las aves picudas del vano sur revela influencia de los monasterios benedictinos del eje Braga-Rates. Posee además una interesante colección de canecillos, incluyendo una figura antropomorfa con dos barbas y otra masturbándose.
