It is worth for the landscape and worth for the way there.

Interesting chapel, for all the mystery that surrounds it.

Valeu a pena o desvio. Fandinhãeees!
The fact that no buildings next to still further highlights the beauty of this unfinished chapel (partially destroyed, depending on the version). It was worth the detour.

The road to reach this place is worth the trip, as well as the views. The chapel is small and is an example of Romanesque architecture in northern Portugal.

Although it is commonly called a chapel, this structure corresponds to the remains of the presbytery of the old Church of San Martín de Fadinhães, formerly owned by an archdeacon of Viseu, whose family belonged to this territory around 1258. Its current ruinous aspect is an enigma, There are 2 non-exclusive theories in this regard; that it had been dismantled and its stones reused in the nearby new parish church or that it had been an unfinished project. Stylistically, it shows Romanesque influences from different regions of Portugal. The figures of snakes and atlanteans confronted on the capitals of its cover are similar to those found in the churches of Travanca (Amaraes) and Abragão (Penafiel). The dihedral trunks of its bays refer to churches in Porto, while the pointed birds of the southern bay reveal the influence of the Benedictine monasteries of the Braga-Rates axis. It also has an interesting collection of corbels, including an anthropomorphic figure with two beards and another masturbating.

One of the smallest gems on the Romanesque route. The chapel is what remains of a larger church (it is the main chapel). Its isolation and landscape add magic and incomparable beauty to the place. The way to get there, easily accessible, is beautiful. Upon arrival, we lost ourselves in time and space. Unique space with an incomparable mysticism.

Small sized yet amazing medieval church. Surrounded by mountains with a wonderful landscape. Definitely worth visiting.
