This small temple, which is about 4 kilometers from Borba, was built in the early 16th century with the intention of serving as a parish church for the farm workers who then existed around the village.
The structure, with simple and clean lines, is closer to the regional architectural models, contrasting with the current decorative style. The facade, preceded by a set of steps, presents to the center portal of rectangular frame, topped by bell.
Of rectangular plan, the building is marked by the juxtaposition of the volumes of the nave and the main chapel, covered by vaults of edges. On the side of the Epistle, near the entrance, the baptistery was built, and on the opposite side, with access by the main chapel, is located the sacristy.
The interior space of the temple is fully decorated by mural painting executed in the eighteenth century. This pictorial program, of great quality, presents images of the hagiographic.
Throughout the centuries, Santa Bárbara became the center of a regular movement of worship and devotion among the borbenses, reason why this hermit still receives, in the Easter Week of Easter, annual pilgrimages.
