From the 16th century on, Guimarães experienced a period of rapid urban growth, with the expansion of the city towards the outside of the medieval walls. One of the new urban centers installed was the place where the Misericordia church was built, which led to the opening of a border square and new streets in the surroundings. Here some of the most important manor houses in the town were built in the 16th and 17th centuries, including this Casa das Rótulas, from the early 17th century.
Rectangular in plan, the building is divided into two floors, maintaining the stone structure on the ground floor, while on the upper floor the main facade is completely covered by wooden hinges, and the side by slate-clad panels, and torn by two rectangular guillotine windows that maintains its primitive typology.
