Going to the top of Penha da Rainha, on the hill of Mount “São Martinho” or “Penha da Rainha”, allows us to get to know an old rock castle and, at the same time, enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the region. Formerly, its castle was the seat of the trial of Penha da Rainha, whose jurisdiction included the “Municipality of Monção” up to the Mouro River and ended in Merufe. At that time, the population was so important that the own bishop of Tui, Dom Pedro I, consecrated the church of São Martinho in 1204. In 1268 it received jurisdiction from the hands of Dom Afonso III. Later, with the court extinct, the town disappeared completely, falling into ruins. At the beginning of the 18th century, the parish priest of Abedim used the stones from the ruins to restore the parish church.

A surprising place due to the huge granite blocks with two shapes and their narrow passages, some with stairs

Adorei o local, a paisagem e toda a envolvência da montanha. A vista panorâmica é fantástica.
I loved the location, the landscape and all the surroundings of the mountain. The panoramic view is fantastic. The chapel built in stone in the middle of the imposing rocks, gives it some mystery.

Spectacular site with stunning views. Difficult access in some sections, but it's worth it. There is an underground parking lot with a booth and tables, you have a tap with water, behind the booth there are some penedos and a little cave and some hidden tables. On the right there are some stairs that lead to a chapel between rocks, in these rocks there is a surprise that is curious ... if you keep climbing you will have two climbs to the top, the first one is complicated and dangerous but it is worth it because you will see rocks with forms or face of some animal, and the following is simpler with ladder and handrail. I advise you in this last one to look for, once at the top, a collapsed soldier, lying on the ground ... Enjoy the adventure and the views, it's worth it.

There are two different areas, on the one hand a picnic area located on a wide plain at the foot of the rise to the castello, or rather, what was the castello and then a relatively easy accessibility rise, very young children or advanced people they could not climb to the end. Half way there is a small hermitage. It is a quiet place with beautiful views that are worth visiting.
