★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Замок Каштелу-Менду расположен в округе Алмейда, на северо-востоке страны. Когда-то он был оборонительным сооружением на испано-португальской границе, занимая удобное положение на скалистом обрыве на высоте 762 метров над уровнем моря, с которого открывался вид на долину реки Коа.
Замок начал свое существование при короле Саншу II, постепенно обрастая несколькими поясами мощных стен. Со временем, утратив свое стратегическое значение, крепость пришла в упадок... Однако во время наполеоновских войн гарнизон крепости из 19 человек упорно оказывал сопротивление французскому отряду под командованием Андре Массена.
Сейчас в замке много любопытных объектов: здание бывшей ратуши и тюрьма (которые отданы под музей)..., церковь Санта-Мария-ду-Каштелу, церковь Святого Винсента, позорный столб, до сих пор обитаемые средневековые каменные дома, и, собственно, оборонительная инфраструктура: руины стен, башни, ворота.
... и предроманские зооморфные фигуры свиней (или кабанов), которым жители срезали носы, чтобы они не пугали местных животных.
Castelo Mendou Castle is located in Almeida County, in the north-east of the country. Once it was a defensive structure on the Spanish-Portuguese border, occupying a comfortable position on a rocky cliff at an altitude of 762 meters above sea level, which overlooked the valley of the Coa River.
The castle began to exist under King Sanshu II, gradually overgrown with several belts of powerful walls. Over time, having lost its strategic importance, the fortress fell into decay ... However, during the Napoleonic wars, a fortress garrison of 19 people stubbornly resisted the French detachment under the command of Andre Massen.
Now the castle has many interesting objects: the building of the former town hall and the prison (which were given over to the museum) ..., the church of Santa Maria do Castelo, the church of St. Vincent, a pillory, still inhabited medieval stone houses, and, in fact, defensive infrastructure: ruins of walls, towers, gates.
... and pre-Roman zoomorphic figures of pigs (or boars), which residents cut their noses so that they do not frighten local animals.

Situada num permontorio com uma vista de tapar a respiração, com arruamentos calcetados, construções palacianas, várias capelas e igrejas. Possui um pelourinho monolítico impressionante. O castelo permite visualizar todo o vale do rio Via. Recomendo a sua visita, não ficará desiludido.
Castelo Mendo is a historic medieval walled village that has all the beauty given its state of originality. Situated in a permontorio with a breathtaking view, with cobbled streets, palatial buildings, several chapels and churches. It has an impressive monolithic pillory. The castle allows you to view the entire valley of the river Via. Highly recommend your visit, you will not be disappointed.
