The layout and tombs of this cemetery reminded me of Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires, but this one has lots of cypresses and a nice view. At the office by the entrance I requested a map of the cemetery. The map has a self-guided tour of the tombs of the most famous people, but, unless you’re very familiar with Portuguese history and culture, you’ll probably not know anybody. Recoleta Cemetery at least has Eva Perón. Interesting points, for me, were the big mausoleum at the edge of the cemetery, the view of the bridge from the observation area, and the tomb of a young woman who was killed at the Bataclan massacre in Paris.

Wonderful experience. Be sure to catch the #28 Tram there. Give yourself a good two hours to stroll around the whole place. Also provides great views of Ponte 25 de Abril.

Excellent goth liker cemetery. Packed with classic tombs and beautiful sculptures. This church yard has a special identity. you will experience the hour glass with bat wings all over. it's actually also some of the decor on the main entrance! It's easy to navigate and there is even public toilets on the perimeter. And plenty of benches. Since the yard is on higher ground you will also from some parts have en excellent view over parts of Lisbon.

What a wonderful, calm place. A reflexion on our own mortality, those who came before us, and those who may remember us. Most tombstones are very well maintained, others not so much. Some places offer great vistas on the city and river.

About as far from an English cemetery as you can get. Not a blade of grass in sight. Just endless avenues of miniature mausoleums like so many marble beach huts. Some of them like tiny holiday homes with a porticoed front door and tiled roof. But if you peek through the net curtained windows you see the actual coffins on shelves. One had a fake fireplace with family photographs on the mantle piece. The cemetery is over run with cats which seem to have set up homes in mausoleums with broken windows. Ugh! In one there were food bowls set out for them. A fascinating place off the beaten tourist track for those seeking peace, solitude and a slightly scary experience.

Very peaceful and interesting cemetery. From the main entrance walk straight to the backend (5 minutes) for an amazing view of the bridge access. Many interesting tombstones, perfectly maintained.
