The Inter-Municipal Community of Lezíria do Tejo (CIMLT) was born from the extinct Urban Community of Lezíria doTejo (CULT) and Association of Municipalities of Lezíria doTejo (AMLT). AAMLT was established on January 22, 1987, and its deed was constituted by twelve municipalities - Almeirim, Alpiarça, Azambuja, Benavente, Cartaxo, Chamusca, Coruche, Golegã, Rio Maior, Salvaterra de Magos, Santarém and Vila Franca de Xira. published in the Diário da República on March 27, 1987.
