Ir à Nazaré e não ver a Ermida da Memória é como ir a Roma e não ver o Papa.
Going to Nazareth and not seeing the Chapel of Memory is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope.

An ancient hermitage, perhaps the oldest building in Nazaré. Initially a small cave that gave rise to the Chapel at the end of the 12th century after the miracle of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré to D. Fuas Roupinho. Legend has it that D. Fuas rode in that area, in the middle of fog and Nossa Senhora da Nazaré prevented the horse from falling over the precipice. Beautiful for its simplicity, with typical Portuguese tiles from the 18th century. Too bad to be closed to the public. Only noticeable by those who understand history. And on the one hand thankfully because I had it just for me and my photographs!

This chapel of modest proportions with a pyramidal roof is located at the end of the promontory, next to the rock where the imprint of the horse's horseshoe remains, testifying to the miracle. Inside, blue and white figurative tile panels represent the apparition of Our Lady while the deer plunges into the void. The chapel also has a lower floor, which is the cave itself, where the original image of the Virgin to whom D. Fuas asked for help was found.

Small, very old chapel. Inside do not miss to take the narrow stairs down to see the small shrine of the Senhora da Nazaré.

Great little chapel next to a fantastic viewing point in Nazaré. Definitely read up on the sorry if the location and memorial. With a quick visit if you're already up there for the view. It won't take you more than 5 minutes.
