En realidad, en Viana hay dos monumentos con la misma temática, que simbolizan el espíritu marinero de la ciudad: Uno es éste y el otrose encuentra en el parque que hay frente al puerto deportivo (en la Av. Marginal). Como digo, son dos versiones diferentes de la misma escultura, ésta realizada en el siglo XX, y la otra en el siglo XVIII. Básicamente es una escultura femenina, con los ropajes aireados por el viento, que lleva en su mano una carabela como símbolo de la importancia del mar y el comercio marítimo de la ciudad. Particularmente, me gusta más la antigua, porque los dorados de ésta me resultan un pelín hortera y no parece que pegue mucho con el entorno (barcos industriales y una fortaleza como telón de fondo), pero sin duda llama la atención. This monument is located in front of the dock of the commercial and fishing port, just in front of the Castle of Santiago da Barra. Actually, in Viana there are two monuments with the same theme, which symbolize the city's maritime spirit: One is this one and the other is in the park in front of the marina (on Av. Marginal). As I say, they are two different versions of the same sculpture, this one made in the 20th century, and the other in the 18th century. Basically it is a female sculpture, with clothes ventilated by the wind, which carries a caravel in her hand as a symbol of the importance of the sea and the city's maritime trade. In particular, I like the old one better, because the gold on this one is a bit tacky and it doesn't seem like it matches much with the environment (industrial ships and a fortress as a backdrop), but it certainly draws attention.

Fica na zona do anteporto, próximo ao Forte. Ótimo lugar para uma parada obrigatória para apreciar o mar e relaxar. Inaugurated in October 1998, the Statue of the Vianesa Woman was sculpted in bronze by the Vianese sculptor Manuel Rocha, representing a woman welcoming visitors from the sea. It is located in the anteport area, close to the Fort. Great place for a mandatory stop to enjoy the sea and relax.

El lugar un poco sucio por culpa de las aves. Deberían cuidarlo todo mucho más, ya que es un paseo muy bonito para realizar alrededor del castillo. I liked the statue of the Viennese woman, who stands out with her golden body. From a distance it looks like a mermaid. The place a bit dirty because of the birds. They should take much more care of everything, since it is a very nice walk to take around the castle.
