The Church of São Bartolomeu is located in Largo de S. Bartolomeu, in the parish of São Bartolomeu, in the city and district of Coimbra, in Portugal.
Its construction is very old, knowing that it already existed in the middle of the 10th century, as witnessed by a document that informs that the church was donated to the Monastery of Lorvão in 957.
The primitive temple was rebuilt in the 12th century in Romanesque style.
Its current feature dates from the reconstruction undertaken in the 18th century, due to the state of ruin in which the previous one was then. Work began on 16 July 1756.
The current temple was built in a very simple Baroque style. Outside, the portal and the two bell towers are noteworthy.
The interior consists of a nave and a main chapel, where you can see a gilded and marbled altarpiece, typical of the 18th century coimbrão and similar to the main altarpiece of the Santa Cruz Monastery. The main altarpiece frames a large canvas, signed by the Italian painter Pascoal Parente, alluding to the Martyrdom of São Bartolomeu. On the Gospel side, in a Mannerist style retable that dates back to the 16th century, the paintings referring to the Death and Resurrection of Christ stand out.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The modest Church of St. Bartholomew is one of the oldest religious sites in town. Its first edification precedes the year of 957, being recorded that it was donated to the Monastery of Lorvão on that year.
Over the centuries, the church suffered significant architectural interventions. The currently Baroque style is due to the works of its complete reconstruction in the second half of the 18th century.
Inside, the most relevant works are: two paintings depicting the death and resurrection of Christ, on the left in the chapel of the nave, and the main gold altarpiece in Baroque style with a painting by the Italian artist Pascoal Parente, the portraying the Martyrdom of St. Bartholomew.
