Impressive on the outside, we can only imagine its interior as it is always closed. That's the reason for only 3 stars

The church of the destroyed convent of Santa Clara de Santarém is the largest Gothic temple in the Scalabitan nucleus. The foundation dates back to the reign of D. Afonso III, namely 1259, the year in which the Poor Clares exchanged Lamego for Santarém, at that time the second city in the kingdom in terms of population. The doors closed in 1902, the year the last nun died, and the convent was finally in ruins. In 1934, the DGEMN began the controversial restoration of the church, with the aim of restoring the monument to its original purity, an orientation that determined the suppression of all non-Gothic elements that survived in the church at that time.

Gothic church! Impressive outside, inside looks simple and not too much ornated. It was outside the ancient walls. Usually is closed, unless there is an event. Ask Tourism Office or in Diocesean Museum if it is possible to schedule a visit, if you really want to see inside. Otherwise you can simply look from outside.
