A data exata da edificação é desconhecida, mas é possível afirmar que é das mais antigas do concelho de Vila Verde, a par da igreja de Coucieiro, também ela do período românico. Existe uma lenda segundo a qual está Igreja terá sido construída numa única noite, com as mulheres a trazerem à cabeça grandes pedras para o adro, enquanto os homens as talhavam e erguiam as paredes.
Romanesque church dedicated to the Divine Savior. The exact date of the building is unknown, but it can be said that it is one of the oldest in the municipality of Vila Verde, along with the church of Coucieiro, also from the Romanesque period. There is a legend that this church was built in a single night, with women bringing large stones to their heads to the churchyard, while men carved and raised the walls.
