I must unfortunately disagree with many of the good reviews writen here, many of which seem to be written by friends, not by clients. The place is devided into a main house, where the owners live, a second construction for the kitchen and a store room and, situated in a big back garden: a couple of small separated cabins with private bedroom and bathroom. We took the 3 day offer including surf course for two people in one of the private bedrooms. That is 630€ for 3 days. Our experience started by the owner showing us our bedroom without any further explanations regarding the use of the kitchen, the organization of the breakfast (presumably accounted for in the 3 day offer) or any explanations regarding the non-functioning WiFi. He was always pretty busy attending friends and family which where constantly present at the place during our visit. The breakfast consisted on literally a plastic bag full of bread left on the table and the remark that there was also some ham and cheese in the fridge. The WiFi problem was solved after much insisting the owner. Warm water works with butane cylinders, therefore it needs replacement every once in a while and you have to speak again with the owner. The third and last night, the owners organized a barbecue party in the back garden. The pun is that the party was not meant for the guests, but for about 20 people consisting on the owners friends and family. - Imagine renting a bungalow and the owners making a party with loud music until late at night around the place where you are suppose to sleep.- Overall the owners do seem friendly, but are unprofessional. 4-star hotel prices for low-end camping place. Yeah, cool surf decoration and "nice vibes"...You reading this may think: "Dude relax, stop bit**ing and just enjoy surf, the nice weather and be easy going". Well, feel free to do it and get ripped off for the good vibes. The surf lessons from Alex were good btw, therefore two stars.

I know Joao and Joana for long time, they are great hosts. The place is very relaxed and coasy, great atmosphere. I usually go with family and our daughters (8 and 11 years old) love spending vacations there.

We totally loved staying at Maceda's Surf Hostel! Joao, the founder and owner is such a creative, nice man and Joanna also! It's amazing what Joao builded, mainly out of recycled materials. We rented a two persons private room in the garden which he builded himself and which looked like a wave, truly beautiful! Everybody was mega friendly, welcoming and we really felt comfortable. Thank you and hope to stay there again!

5 Stars! Best experience ever, Juana and João were extremely welcoming, flexible and treated us like family! We rocked up to borrow some wetsuits and a board....the hostel is beautiful, loads of fruit trees, a Friendly doggo, lovingly and individually decorated little cabins, all just a 5min drive away from EXCEPTIONAL Maceda Beach. We'll be back!

THE surf camp to go to in North Portugal! Maceda surf camp is a lovely and unique place to stay and to learn how to surf or upgrade your surf skills. Joao and Joanna are amazing and make you feel at home and part of the family. The camp is truly a beautiful and peaceful place, in the middle of the forest with gorgeous beaches with quite line ups minutes away. The cabins João built by hand are beautiful, creative and built of recycled material and surf boards. It’s hard to describe how amazing the place is; go and experience this magic place for yourself and you won’t be disappointed!

Was a great place, great host with knowledge of what you need to know if you want to surf. Joao will get you where you need to be, is a great story teller and all round good guy. I took a chance with a short notice trip in February and glad I did. Would love to go back and stay with my partner and show her around next time.

Spent 1-week there. Well situated in Portugal, 10min away from Porto, easy to catch the best surf spots from the pace. Super welcoming! Rooms are super clean, the garden is great and peaceful. The best spot to share and improve your surf. Can't wait to fly back to Maceda! Thanks Joao!
