★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Alberto Sampaio encontra-se representado num baixo-relevo de bronze, da autoria de António de Azevedo, escultor radicado em Guimarães desde a década de 1930 e autor de diversos outras obras expostas na nossa cidade. Foi inaugurado no dia 10 de junho de 1956, Dia de Portugal.
Nascido em Guimarães, em novembro de 1841, Alberto Sampaio formou-se em Direito na Universidade de Coimbra. No entanto, foi como historiador que se notabilizou e foi para Guimarães que voltou depois de uma curta carreira como advogado, em Lisboa. Ajudou a fundar a Sociedade Martins Sarmento, tendo sido proclamado sócio honorário, em 1891. Em 1884 foi ele a “alma” da grande Exposição Industrial de Guimarães, promovida pela Sociedade Martins Sarmento.
Para além deste monumento, Guimarães quis prestar-lhe homenagem e por isso escolheu-o para patrono de um dos mais importantes museus da cidade, o Museu de Alberto Sampaio.
 Alberto Sampaio is represented in a bronze bas-relief, by António de Azevedo, a sculptor based in Guimarães since the 1930s and author of several other works exhibited in our city. It was inaugurated on June 10, 1956, Portugal Day.
Born in Guimarães, in November 1841, Alberto Sampaio graduated in Law at the University of Coimbra. However, it was as a historian that he became famous and it was to Guimarães that he returned after a short career as a lawyer, in Lisbon. He helped to found the Sociedade Martins Sarmento, having been proclaimed an honorary member in 1891. In 1884 he was the “soul” of the great Industrial Exhibition in Guimarães, promoted by the Sociedade Martins Sarmento.
In addition to this monument, Guimarães wanted to pay homage to him and therefore chose him as patron of one of the most important museums in the city, the Museu de Alberto Sampaio.
