★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is the best pastry shop in the area of Sintra.
Maybe there are others that are more advertised but none are quite as good.
Four generations of my family have constantly visited this shop for whatever type of typical pastry one is looking for.
The famous cream cup is only second, in some people's opinion, to the one in Lisbon at Belém, but to me it's actually better.
The biscuits, the rolls, the pies, basically all is a 'sin' of indulgence.
And because it's not close to the tourist's attractions it is even better as one cam be in and out without having to fight for anything.
Every typical sweet pastry is available.
I truly recommend it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very rude staff, if you have kids, I would avoid this place. We came here with our daughters and my youngest, who is 7, sat on her hills since she is too small to reach the table and the place had no booster seat. The waiter very rudely told her to sit on her bottom. The first time I thought it was weird, but my daugter did as she was told. Then, of course, unable to reach the table properly she went back to sitting on her hills. The waiter came back and scolded her. I've never seen anything like this. Rude.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Delicious authentic Portuguese pastries in a local cafe. €5.80 for 3 pastries and 2 coffees. A way better alternative to the touristy Piriquita.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sandwiches and salads are exceptional, a fantastic lunch spot. And such good value for money: a third to a quarter of the price you’ll pay in the old town a short walk away.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I visited this place in October last year and still cannot get it out of my head. If I ever visit Sintra again, it would be one of the main reasons for me (ok, the castles too...). This place is quite hidden from hustle and bustle of the city centre, and the location is not great (close to a busy road). This is the only negative that is there to it. Once you enter, you feel like at home. The staff is local same as lots of the guests, but they make you feel very comfortable. The cafe has been run for generations and you can tell that the people love what they do. Although they might not be the most fluent in English, they explain you patiently what is hiding in each of the pastries as seriously you are spoilt for choice. You can either take the pastries with you (even in bigger prepacked sachets) or sit at one of the cute tables with a menu and they take your order.
You might think this place sells just amazing home made pastries, but there is so much more. I visited 3 times and was always pleasantly surprised. The sandwich I had there (with mozzarrella and tomato I think) was one of the best prepared sandwiches I ever had, yet it was not expensive at all. Tea is served in very nice kettle and there's plenty flavours to choose from. Each day there is also daily menu that consits of hearthy soup and proper meal and you can tell that people loved it. I once also tried one of their salads and it was just bursting with freshness and love. It was not too big, but satisfying.
Honestly you could sit at this place for hours and be in awe from what you are experiencing. The ladies there are so lovely, they always make sure that you feel welcome and that you do not need anything else to feel happy.
Now about the pastries...all of those I tried there were amazing, I have to point out the simple "sugary doughnut" which seriously melted in your mouth. However one thing completely took my breath and taste buds away. It is called Broas de Mel (honey cookies) in an oval/ellipse shape and it surpassed any of the other Sintra "famous pastries" (travesseiros, qeijadas etc.). Once you try it with tea, you are forever cursed and can never forget. It is soft yet dense, the combination of the flavours and spices reminded me of gingerbread flavour, but much more sophisticated. After trying it a few times, I realized it was the thing I had to bring from Sintra as "souvenir" for my family and friends, so I got a few bags of those on my last day before heading to the airport.
If you are at least little bit close to the place, please pay a visit. The staff is so nice and they pack anything to take away with you in a paper box, so you can take it for your long walks around Sintra and enjoy the pastries while spending time in the nearby parks and castles. I will never forget this experience and my only wish is for this place to last there forever. It seriously tears bum to all those other "famous touristy pastry places" in Sintra. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful place for breakfast. We went there quite early in the morning and had a pleasant time enjoying the numerous pastries they had to offer. The pastries were soft, warm and delicious! The lady at the counter was happy to help and translate what every single pastry was. Our personal favourite was the chicken pastry! Would definitely come back if we return to Sintra!
