História:
Esta pedra foi encontrada durante as dragagens efectuadas aquando das obras de recuperação e revalorização do cais, e localizava-se nesta área conforme documento fotográfico do início do sec.XX.
A sua função era a de guiar os pilotos na navegação e acostagem das embarcações, evitando que encalhassem em bancos de areia ou embatessem em elevações rochosas do fundo do rio.
Para além desta, existiam outra Pedras de Marca ao longo das margens do Ave, tal como a que se encontra próximo da foz, junto aos actuais estaleiros de construção naval.

History:
This stone was found during the dredging carried out during the works of recovery and revaluation of the pier, and was located in this area according to a photographic document from the beginning of the 20th century.
Its function was to guide the pilots in navigating and docking the vessels, preventing them from stranding on sandbanks or hitting rocky elevations at the bottom of the river.
In addition to this, there were other Pedras de Marca along the banks of the Ave, such as the one near the mouth, next to the current shipbuilding yards.
