Igreja Matriz .
Vila de Monsaraz received its first Charter in 1276 , granted by King Afonso III and confirmed by D. Manuel I in 1512 .
The current Pillory, which symbolizes the autonomy of the municipality, dates back to the
18th century and was built on the ruins of a previous one destroyed in the
1755 earthquake.
It is built in white marble and stands in the square in front of the
Mother Church.
