★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice old style elegant hotel, great breakfast. Good restaurants and bars but obviously on the expensive side. Golf courses fun to play, but a little unkempt in places, although overall the golf experience is good. Swimming pool stands out as one of the best you'll find.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Only visited for a round of golf and a couple of beers. Nice testing course but a little tired and requires a little TLC. Clubhouse staff very pleasant.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hotel is nice if a bit dated, needs a lick of paint here and there. I felt that the bar staff were not very efficient and it was difficult to get a drink at times. The championship course is a great design but the greens are in poor condition, diseased and bobbly. I felt the greens on the 9 hole resort were better although they are also suffering. I don't know if all this is down to covid in some way. It could be a great venue but it's current state is letting it down.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nothing wrong with the hotel itself, rooms and communal areas are nice and clean. The pool is great.
The bar and restaurant were horribly understaffed which meant long waits for any service.
The Championship course could be amazing - there are some interesting holes with a good mix of long and short to offer you multiple ways to play the hole. The greens however were not up to the same standard - very patchy and bumpy. Not what you would expect from a course of this quality and it detracted from the overall experience.
The Resort "course" (for lack of a better word) is utter rubbish. It barely qualifies as a golf course it's in such bad shape. Penina should be ashamed to ask people to pay to play here. Quite simple the worst course I've played.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stayed in the apartments which were very nice. The golf course was excellent and not too busy. The restaurants were perfectly acceptable although we found restaurants in the area (Alvor) better. Overall though, really enjoyed our stay and would have no issue with recommending it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Penina Hotel and Golf resort is classic 5 star, built in the 1960's and with a rich history of golf and celebrity guests. Perhaps its from a different era and arguably slightly dated but the class remains. Service is impeccable and genuinely warm and friendly. The Championship golf courses like the hotel, maybe dated but still a richly rewarding experience. This place has earned a special place in my heart and has provided treasured memories over several years.
