The place and the atmosphere right next to the river is really special and beautiful. The stuff as well was really nice. All the food is bought locally and economically friendly, so you can eat without any bad feeling :) The currys on tuesday nights are fantastic, but I also had clams that were very very delicious (kind of a spicy sauce, never had clams like this before). If you are in the area I would totally recommand to have dinner or a plate at any other time! Thanks for the beautiful evenings xx

The Place is over an hours drive from where we live so we were a little hesitant to make the trip. But it was our friends birthday and we were not going to miss out on celebrating with him. So we drive the twisty and winding N2 all the way to Gois. All I can say is this restaurant made the trip more than worth it. Seeing our friends and celebrating a birthday was going to be fun regardless, but the atmosphere, service and quality of the food made this a day to remember. It was the kind of meal you talk about for the rest of your life. The riverside location transports you to another world. Being met at the door by Allen, our host, made us feel we were part of family. The port cocktail he offered us was refreshing and the perfect level of sweetness. After warming up by the fire, we all took our seats and were served the most amazing family style lunch. The meat and cheese board was top notch. I do not usually enjoy morcela because of the texture but the morcela on this board was meaty and mineraly without overly tasting of blood. The crispy skin had a great texture that made it next level. The clams in a Thai inspired broth had us asking extra loaves of bread to soak up the spicy broth. The shrimp were succulent and like any good shrimp were PEELED of all but the head. Nothing ruins a delicious shrimp dish like having to battle the skin while trying not to splash the sauce all over your shirt. The short ribs were nothing short of spectacular. After asking Allen from where he sourced his meat (the short rib cut does not exist here in Portugal), he told me that the chef actually spent time with their local butcher teaching him how to do the specific cuts for the restaurant. To me, that confirmed the passion about food and service that was evident in every bite of this meal. What ever plans you have in Gois, cancel them and book a reservation at The Place instead. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing & beautiful place surrounded by forrests and water. Stayed for lunch - plate of the day and it was really good. Also the owner has a scottish background and gives an amazing service.

The care which the hosts take with everything from the friendly welcome to the delicious food, is exceptional. The chef really knows his stuff in terms of using great ingredients in an imaginative way and serving perfect sized, attractive portions which burst with flavour. Highly highly recommend.

A not to miss eating experience in all of Portugal. The chef knows flavor and presentation and chooses the best ingredients. The atmosphere is beyond. Everyone that works there are professional and sweet.

I went to Place Gois twice since my arrival in Portugal. Both times I have had the best food and experience. The first was for my birthday and the second was for New Year's Eve. Such wonderful owners and plenty of delicious food. Thank you Place Gois for making my birthday and new year smashing.
