Duarte Pacheco, ministro das obras públicas e comunicações que viria a dar o nome à Ponte. A obra foi incluída nas comemorações centenárias da independência de Portugal. Muitos trabalhadores da freguesia de Alpendurada e Matos, Várzea do Douro e Torrão deram corpo a uma das pontes mais bonitas de Portugal.
The Duarte Pacheco Bridge was inaugurated on September 18, 1941 by the President of the Republic António Carmona attended the ceremony among others the eng.
