I remember very clearly the day my husband and I decided to end our careers, open a restaurant and change our lives for the best. It feels like ages now, although it did not happen that long ago, in august 2019.
We went down to Quarteira, this small town at the tip of the Algarve, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, over which the delightful Portuguese peacefulness and a magnificent clear sky were hovering all year long. Hervé and I had fallen in love with this part of the world a few years ago and we knew that whatever it was we were seeking for in this wild project of ours, it must have been hidden there. Then we found the Diplomatico, a restaurant settled in an old moradia with terracotta tiles and golden vaults. This beautiful stone masonry was concealed in the dark by a few unused tables and, at the back, a forlorn outdoors area where grew bright coral hibiscus interwound in a gorgeous bougainvillea. We new we had found our place. A place where we could welcome our guests like our friends for a different experience in the Algarve.

It is always so good to see the staff, the make you feel like part of the family. Atmosphere is amazing, makes you want to stay and relax. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you're in Quarteira (or even Vilamoura) and you want a proper quality meal away from all the usual tourist fayre, head here. It's a very worthwhile 15 minute walk from the Quarteira water front or a few minutes by car (there's parking outside).
The service is attentive but not overbearing, the simple fixed priced tiered menu is clearly explained. Three tiers, £13, £15 and £17 respectively for 3 courses and espresso.
Complementary tapenade and toasts are a nice appetiser, the wines very reasonably priced and the coffee good quality.
We both had completely different meals and each was very enjoyable. The current pork main and creme caramel dessert were outstanding.
Should we ever visit the area again, we would ABSOLUTELY revisit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a lovely setting!!! The atmosphere in the outdoor courtyard is wonderfully laidback.
We each had the goats cheese to start and the sea bream for main which were really tasty. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sides of vegetables are the best we've had so far in Vilamoura! It's also the best value we've seen here. The service was friendly and added to the excellent evening we had.
It may be a little bit out of the way, but more than worth a visit!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Another fabulous restaurant in Quarteira - you must try it! Best prawns ever and gorgeous steaks, perfectly cooked, oh yes and then the chocolate fondant and ice cream - delicious!! Very friendly staff too and chef always makes an appearance - always a good sign! Love this place and will definitely be back next visit! ???
