★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Este visconde era o general Torres que batalhou, militar e politicamente, contra o miguelismo. Iniciou a sua carreira militar no quartel de Cavalaria em Santarém e daí, julgo eu, a ligação do seu nome a esta linda praça. A praça tem uma posição central no centro histórico pois intersecta as vias que vão da praça do Seminário às Portas do Sol. São dignos de nota os belos edifícios cobertos de azulejos. Foi chamada Praça Nova, e aí se achavam os Paços do Concelho na Idade Média. Agora, está lá localizada a sede da empresa municipal Águas de Santarem.
This viscount was General Torres who fought, militarily and politically, against miguelism. He began his military career at the Cavalry barracks in Santarém and from there, I believe, the connection of his name to this beautiful square. The square has a central position in the historic center as it intersects the roads that go from the Seminar square to Portas do Sol. The beautiful buildings covered with tiles are worth noting. It was called Praça Nova, and there were the Town Halls in the Middle Ages. Now, the headquarters of the municipal company Águas de Santarem is located there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Praça com muita história que chegou a servir de mercado (lugar que era flanqueado por portas, sendo a antiga praça o ponto de encontro dos antigos locais). Faz vizinhança com as escadinhas de Santo António, lugar que foi recentemente recuperado :). Alguns edifícios desta Praça também se encontram em recuperação.
Square with a lot of history that came to serve as a market (place that was flanked by doors, the old square being the meeting point of the old places).
