No Renascimento, existiu aqui o Hospital dos Epidemiados, usado para o isolamento de doentes.
 The man responsible for its construction was Pero Docem (or Pero do Sem), an Aragonese nobleman who was Chancellor of Afonso V, as a way of marking his fifth (later dubbed by the people of "Quinta da Boa Vista"), on the outskirts of the medieval village.
In the Renaissance, there was the Epidemic Hospital, used for the isolation of patients.
