★ ★ ★ ★ ★ STAW AWAY if you come by train. The boat that can take you to the other side of the river is nothing but a beautiful myth: it exists, you can see it, but it does not EVER move. No, the local municipality never bothered to build a floating bridge, or place a motor boat across that narrow passage that a baby could swim over. They all know the transfer boat is a hoax but pretend they only learnt about this the day you call them: all are actors in this pointless plot, from the head of local tourism in Nisa to the head of the region (who of course told her secretary to deal with this, indeed, why should she care that the state money was splashed on something you can only reach by car). The random woman saw me waiting and told me to not even hope. Oh, of course they explain it by ‘high water levels from the dam’ and never their disastrous incompetence. TIP: go to barragem de Belver, there as a bridge to a wonderful walk along the river with a view over the castle.
