Fantastic fortification, not only is it a day to visit shops and buy towels. Then you have to try the cod. Very good views of TuY and the international bridge, with the train passing through the top of the bridge

Just across the border with Portugal is a small town focused on shopping, with a beautiful outer wall and a multitude of shops where you can buy towels, sheets ... it really does not deserve much in terms of price. Better to park your car outside the wall, inside it is full of narrow streets. There is a paid ground parking right at the entrance at an affordable price

Perfectly preserved walled city, on the border with Portugal. Many people go for its textiles, but for my taste, it is better to go for its views, buildings and gastronomy. Everyone speaks Spanish, so there is no problem to be understood. It has 4 access gates and a practically intact wall. It is accessible by car, but there is plenty of parking outside and it is more comfortable. The center is all pedestrian

Border town in the district of Viana do Castelo. It has a charter since the reign of D. Sancho I. It was the birthplace of the first Portuguese saint, São Teotónio, companion in arms of D. Afonso Henriques and today the patron saint of Valença. The river Minho forms a natural border with Spain and from the fortress you can enjoy beautiful views over the river and the neighboring town of Tuy. The construction of the stronghold of Valença dates back to the transition from the 12th to the 13th centuries. During the War of Restoration of Portuguese Independence the The existing fortification was renovated under the design of the French architect Michel de L´École with the construction of bastions and new moats. Inside the walled city, the Paços do Council, topped by an interesting clock, the Churches of Santo Estêvão and Santa Maria dos Anjos and the Bom Jesus Chapel. A special reference to this chapel, also known as military chapel, whose construction dates from the 17th century, in Baroque style, work of Manuel Pinto Vilalobos. Its dimensions make it almost a small church with a high choir and a high altar with beautiful gilded carvings. Inside there is a small image of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, patroness of the Infantry Regiment no. 21 located in Valença and which accompanied the military, kept in a backpack whenever they went on campaign. The entire historic center of Valença is well maintained and deserves a careful visit.

Valença do Minho. Walled city located in the North of Portugal in the beautiful region of Minho. Old village with its castle overlooking the village, castle that was destined to the defense of Portugal and the Fronteira with Spain. Wonderful place to eat
