Villa Idalina - Largo de São Bento

Nice but no heating in October is not okay. Everybody was freezing to death. Got a cold afterwards.

AMAZING!!! Villa Idalina is real, like a dream come through. Nothing has change in this house in 100 year, Andres family have keep this place the same way that it was when Joaquim build it in 1930 for his love Idalina. Susana is an amazing hostess, she give us a tour of the house and took the time to share with us the history of the house; his owner, his wife, his son .... to spent a night in Villa Idalina is like go back in time, it is one of a kind experience

The property here surely is the big plus. A really nicely kept mansion in brazilian style from a hundred years ago. The owners say they try to change as little of the original structure as possible. Mostly this can be confirmed it really feels very original. Some of the accomodations especially regarding the bathrooms are a bit peculiar, of course, because a hundred years ago things have been a little bit different than today. That is something I can live with. Having a bathroom that is separate from the bedroom is okay for me. One of the rooms has a very little bathroom that previously was a dressing room. This one's quite cramped and I would rather avoid having that one. The breakfast was okay, the quality and diversity of the supplied food could be improved, however. Also we got a couple of slices of toasted bread every day without being asked and most of the times we didn't touch them so they had to the thrown away probably. The same goes for the fried eggs that have been served without asking for a couple of days. Some more communication can help here. One aspect that nearly ruined the stay is the intensive use of air fresheners throughout the house. Some of the rooms also have those things plugged into the power outlet. At first it may seem to smell nice but spend more than half an hour in this air and you might get a serious headache or even allergies. I don't know whether the owners want to cover up some bad smells from the old building or are simply crazy with "fresh air" but I really want to inform you that this stuff is pure chemistry and not a healthy one most probably. So yourselves and the guests a favor and get rid of these things. You can just as well put up some natural oils or something for having a better smell.

What a beautiful place! We stayed at Villa Idalina while we were hiking the camino Portuguese. The hospitality was outstanding, the room was very comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. The only problem was we had to leave early in the morning and weren't able to spend more time here. We would love to come back!

Best place to stay in the region. It is such a beautiful house with a great history. The owners are really friendly and helpful. We had the room upstairs with a separat bathroom in the tower. So nice views. Great shower. Great bathtub. Yummy breakfast. I really like that they serve breakfast late so you don't need to get up too early on vacation. Great views from the top of the tower.
