Casa dos Marqueses de Cantagallo

This house is known as the Casa dos Marqueses de Cantagallo (Chamberlain of the Emperor of Brazil and Duque de Bragança), but in reality it is the house where his wife (D. Maria Tereza Smissaert Pinto de Sousa Caldas) and children after the death of the Marquis. The palatial house is from the end of the century. XIX and predates the vogue of the summer, having been designed by one of the Marquis' sons, the architect Rodrigo Maria da Gama Berquó (1839-1896). One of the daughters was Maria Amélia da Gama Freitas Berquó (1834-1887) who married the doctor José Maria dos Passos Vella (1840-1931) who also lived here and has the statue in full body in front of the house.
