Bellissimi gli effetti scenici da Visual Museum. A nossa história do bacalhau, remonta ao ano de 1353 aquando do tratado no reinado de D. Pedro I com Duarte III de Inglaterra para poderem pescar durante 50 anos nas costas daquele reino A nação portuguesa considerando, nesse tempo nobres os pescadores, e enchendo-os de privilégios, preparou com antecedência os marinheiros dos Descobrimentos. Nos meados do século XV, Corte - Real, explorando o Atlântico Norte, encontrou uma terra de verde paisagem, mas junto da qual, o seu navio dificilmente podia caminhar embaraçado pelos bancos bacalhoeiros. Essa terra a que logo se pôs o nome Terra dos Bacalhaus, foi simplesmente conhecida como Terra Nova dos Cortes - Reais, ou simplesmente Terra Nova. Foram os portugueses os primeiros a ir pescar bacalhau nas costas da Terra Nova. Só de Aveiro partiram expedições de 60 navios. Algumas entrevistas com pescadores e comandantes das frotas pesqueiras mostram-nos as dificuldades da pesca deste peixe bastante apreciado pelos portugueses. O valor do bilhete é de 4 euros mas merece. Very well organized, with the history of the cod harvest, carried out by the Portuguese, over time. Some interviews with fishermen and commanders of the fishing fleets show us the difficulties of fishing for this fish, which is very appreciated by the Portuguese. The ticket value is 4 euros but it deserves it.

C	Craig G on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A nice overview of the importance of cod fishing to Portugal, presented both professionally and charmingly. There are a number of very interesting videos of interviews with cod boat fishermen and captains which brought the history to life.
H	Hayman Yuen on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Surprisingly good, great way to learn about the cod fishing history. It's a small place but very interactive and my 6 years old thoroughly enjoyed it. ( It is more interesting for young kids compare to The story museum next door, which is more serious) We used the Lisboa card and entry is covered.
N	Natacha du pont de bie on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I loved the wonderfully eccentric cod museum of Lisbon, where Jesus inexplicably appeared on my dinner plate you can row a cod boat in the freezing northern seas and they have a gallery of famous paintings with the subjects substituted by codfish! Oh my, I was ecstatic. It’s a great little interactive museum but sadly because of covid many of the displays have been set aside until a more touchy time, so there are some gaps to fill. Salt cod is worshiped with an almost religious fervour here and you enter the museum through a shop that is a cathedral to cod. Ten foot cardboard salt cods swing from a stone vaulted ceiling and fishy products are lit with golden light in niches and cabinets. The museum tells the story of cod fishing in many amusing and unusual ways. I enjoyed hearing the terrifying fisherman’s tales through a series of videos in portholes and sitting down to the virtual meal at a table but the connection to slavery was noticeably absent and needs to be addressed. Once that confrontation with the facts has been included it will be a top museum for Lisbon. Go visit.
