Great build. Unfortunately, it can only be viewed from the dam. An impressive lock with a drop of 33m!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ As an engineering feat it is a very good example. The dam has a deep, wide and long lock for river traffic. At the other end is a good hydroelectric power station. Not attractive to look at. Is was built under Salazar.
There are four other similar locks along the Portuguese Douro.
