★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My sister and I went backpacking through the algarve a couple of years ago. After hitch hiking and wild camping, we wanted to stay in a nice hostel to get some rest.
Found the only hostel that was not fully booked and we were completely surprised. The owners were amazing and the hostel even had its own "olympic swimmingpool" (favourite joke of the hosts).
We did not know Silves and were excited to see a mideival festival during our stay.
We wanted to stay a couple days longer but they were full for the rest of the week.
The owner saw our dissapointment and offered us to pitch our tent in the backyard FOR FREE!!!
We were allowed to sleep under their avocado tree and use all the facilities inside.
Even after this time we still think back at the great time we had here. Really hospitable family running a hostel with great passion. They could have just said no and let us go but they sincerely care about tourists enjoying their hometown.
10/10 would recommend to anyone!!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed 2 nights in Silves and we chose the best place to stay. There is a big garden with lots of fruits, what we could eat. Antonio recommended us few places to see, which was very kind. We could make fresh orange juice in the morning (I never had better juice before, so juicy! )
Antonio’s mother was very nice and helpful also.
It was just perfect :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing little hostel. The lady and her son who run the place are very helpful and have tons of recommendations. Freeh fruits from the garden every day. Great views of the castle and old town of Silves. Large rooms with curtains and lockers for every bed. Brilliant for hikers or really for anyone looking for a place to stay in the Algarve region for a few days.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have stayed in many hostels around Portugal and have never been quite so delighted with my stay as in the Horta Grande. It is clean, quiet and super comfortable. The main hostess, Hellena is like the super Auntie you never had and the atmosphere is like a home I wish to have one day. The terrace and land are perfect for relaxing and chatting with other guests and to top it all there is an almost endless suplly of juicey oranges and other fresh fruits from the garden. I cannot recommend this place enough and would give it 6 Stars if I could!
