★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My friend was married in this beautiful church. Even on a hot day it wasn't too bad inside. It is not hard to get to and from any of the hotels on the beach.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's lovely, coloured brilliant white, on a bright day like it was, it seemed to shine like the sun! Its nestled away in the back streets of town - it felt to me like the embodiment of everything that is spiritual of Portugal and its people.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Main Church of Portimão Portimão Built at the end of the 15th century in the Gothic style, this church underwent major remodelling after the 1755 earthquake. The façade has a medieval portal similar to the Batalha Monastery and a pediment decorated with mass work characteristic of the late 18th century. Inside, three naves separated by columns with Tuscan capitals, a triple headboard and four side chapels. As far as the church's ornamentation is concerned, the altarpieces of the chancel and of the Capela do Santíssimo Sacramento deserve special mention, as well as the images of Nossa Senhora das Almas do Purgatório, São Pedro and São Gonçalo de Lagos that, like the altarpieces, date from the second half of the 18th century.
