A igreja de Santiago fica no caminho para o Castelo de São Jorge e pode ser incluída no roteiro de visitação ao Castelo. A igreja é o ponto de partida do caminho português que levará à cidade de Santiago de Compostela, ao norte, já em território espanhol.
The church of Santiago is on the way to Castelo de São Jorge and can be included in the tour of the Castle. The church is the starting point of the Portuguese road that will take you to the city of Santiago de Compostela, to the north, already in Spanish territory.

It would have been really nice to be able to start our Caminho de Portuguese at this particular church. Unfortunately it was closed both times we got there. Take note that this is supposedly the official start of the Caminho de Portuguese in Lisbon BUT you get your first stamp for your credentials at Lisbon's cathedral or Sé. Luckily the two churches are not far away from each other. It would really help pilgrims if they would put the signage concerning the opening times/ hours on the gate at the entrance and not on the wall next to the church door since it is difficult to see that far.

Nice place to start walking the Portuguese Way. Closed most of the time but the brochure from the National Pantheon listed the opening times (Wed afternoon and Sunday morning). Lady inside was very friendly, spoke no English but gave me a credencial stamp, first one of the Camino.

Mass starts at 9am (in Portuguese) and ends within 1hour. The church is old and very beautiful, it has a traditional confessional and a magnificent chapel at the right side of the church.
