★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I feel like a total grinch but to me this is a beautiful building that is totally spoiled by the jostling hordes. Yeah yeah it's a cool staircase, and yeah ok they have some tie up with Harry Potter but... I would spend my time elsewhere, personally. It's in a city dripping with history, no need to crowd into this one little piece of it. And as a bookshop, it's not very good. Unless you want to buy Harry Potter books I guess.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tourist trap. You pay 6€ entry that you will most probably not get return on, because you will not find many books in english. Also when you do, its so overpriced, that it doesn’t make sense to buy in this book store. Other languages are available too, but same issue like with english books. It’s a place that looks cool, but if you actually want to buy books, go elsewhere.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very pretty library, which makes sense as it has been named the most beautiful library in the world. It is also where JK Rowling got inspiration for the Harry Potter series.
However, there is usually a line and you must pay a ticket to get in. Additionally, if you are actually looking for a bookstore where to buy books and maybe take your time looking at stuff, this is not the place I would recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a local chain of bookstores across Porto. They have a small selection of English language books but focus on Portuguese best sellers. We were able to find our Portuguese A1 text books here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ People seem to be confused. This is not the bookstore with the big queue which allegedly inspired a wizard book. It is "just" an excellent bookstore with a small but carefully curated selection of English language books. Worth the visit!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Some of the bad reviews are for the other bookshop around the corner (that which shall not be named), which is a tourist trap and waste of time.
This store, however, is a branch of the oldest bookshop Livraria Bertrand in Lisbon. This bookshop is lovely, it’s unassuming decor makes you want to spend hours browsing without having to go through gladiator fights (or paying an entrance fee) to move like that other place. The staff are helpful and kind. The prices are reasonable and they have a good selection of books in English. Highly recommend this location if you’re in the area.
