★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice spot, breakfast, brunch or lunch. Reasonably priced dishes, interesting daily entrées such as kebabs and a delicious lamb stew, vegan options, variety of eggs, toasts, salads, yummy mimosas and bloody Mary’s, and the best expresso in town! Very good selection of music, and not too loud.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The menu is fairly small but full of interesting dishes. You have to try the tempura peas, they are delicious. The curry was also good and the lentil pancakes were really nice. All in a charming place with very nice staff.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Usually, dessert is not a big thing for me, but Frederico Carvalho’s “dulce de leche” and mascarpone mousse was as addictive as heroine, and my husband and I were fighting each other with spoons to get to the last of it. We had begun with mature rib-eye “Bife a Papagaios”, which was superbly cooked, perfectly rare and bursting with umami. The tuna tartare, paired with black bean puree with Mexican spices and topped with crisp salty corn kernels, was a wonderous dish of perfectly balanced textures and taste sensations and, like everything we have eaten there since, it was full of inventive flavours.
Frederico, who originally trained as an architect, learned how to cook with his parents and grandparents, and then travelled the world working 24/7 in a cruise ship, where from buzz boy he started cooking Portuguese dishes for the captain and his team. He was part of the original team who made Go Natural, and worked as an executive chef in upscale restaurants in London, Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve. Before the pandemic, he had already decided to take things a little more slowly.
That’s when he met Joana Amado, a seasoned journalist and ex-chief editor of the foreign desk at “Público” newspaper who also needed a change. Joana wanted to run a restaurant that felt like an extension of her home, where friends and neighbours could meet, eat and talk. “I have many regulars,” she says, “I know their names, what they do, that is what makes sense to me.” Joana is a wonderful host and there is a lively conversation to be had. Madalena Alfaia, a book editor and Frederico’s wife, sometimes helps out and has a mean taste in wine, friends come regularly, people come back. This is the sort of place where you finish your meal and then sit around for quite a long while, enjoying the intelligent company, but it’s a warm and inclusive company, where all are welcome. We have been back three times already.
True to their word of taking things slow, the restaurant is only open for lunch 12h-16h, Wednesday to Sunday, and can be booked for private dinners. Well worth it.
