★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went against other reviews and opted for the villa. It is definitely the worst place we have stayed for the whole trip. Bed is old and not comfortable, couch is significantly worn with the upholstery coming off. Towels are worn and old, like sand paper.
The pool and spa are lovely. Roman bath was out of service. I do not know if the rooms in the hotel are any better than the villas.
2nd night, worse than 1st. Did not receive extra blankets as requested. Hot water for shower was less than robust. Took more than 3 minutes to heat up.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dom Joao 2 is a very good hotel. Great location on beach boardwalk front. 10 mins walk from town and marina. Hotel was spotless clean and food was rely nice. Staff were professional with the exception of Bar staff who were slow and totally disinterested in Customers. Pestana should address this as everything else is fine.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cold English Breakfast, we got what we thought was a great deal through Booking.com but no, wouldn't like to think we'd paid the full price as even if we base it on the knock down price I feel we were over charged. On first appearance it's a comfortable, modern, clean & comfortable hotel and in their defence it's all of those, but the food was absolutely shocking & if you decide to have dinner thete at the moment it's not great value at around 40Euros for buffet food. Sadly, I would not recommend this hotel if you are expecting food that you would serve at home on a bad day!! We didn't make a good choice

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great location, friendly staff, very comfortable. Number of people there was low due to covid impacts so food choice was more limited than usual. Food was v good though. Extremely good spa and pool.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic location right on the beach and an easy walk into Alvor. This hotel has been totally renovated. Rooms and public areas all light airy and modern. Food good and great facilities plus you get discounted golf at all the Pestana owned golf courses. All round amazing value for money.
