Every time I am back home I do go to here. Every time the wine selection doesn’t goes wrong , every time the selection of apetizers brings in full on mode the northern flavours with a modern twist!
The meat Perfectly Cooked. Plus, sanitary wise all the measures are followed and they definitely do the extra mile ! Go there , seat and support Portuguese business !
white port Tonics are delicious as apero !!
P.s. I am sorry for the lack of photos , when you are just enjoying the best food with the best wine who cares about phones and cameras !!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A little bit surprised when we arrived by the welcoming, we ended up having a nice lunch after all. Yes, service was a bit clumsy but it was friendly. The restaurant was calm. The food was served with very large portion: even half portion of the main dish was huge! We were unable to finish our plates. Not a sophisticated cuisine, but an honest path into the Portuguese culinary world.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent food! We were there with kids, staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and every dish we ordered was cooked to perfection. We had tornedor and duck confit. For dessert we had tiramisu, it was good but the way it is presented makes you eat all the cream before mixing the other parts and flavors. Overall a great experience!

Bacallau probe tolo was an inmense blob of battered cod with potatoes and some veggies (turnip tops I think). Not very tasty though. Much enough to feed 4 people.
I guess that wasn't the best option to go for but you know there's always a risk and we took it.
Still, a nice place to go, very quiet&clean, with free toothpaste in the toilets
Tip: as usual in Portugal, be careful about the couvert

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A lovely restaurant serving modern upscale twists on Portuguese food...without upscale prices! We went for lunch and had their price fixe for 10€ which included an appetizer, soup, main dish (grilled sea bass or pork cheek) and drink. Everything was absolutely delicious - the pork cheek was especially good! Fantastic location along the river. The interior is tastefully decorated and the staff are warm and friendly. Will be back next time we visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A wonderful restaurant alongside the Rio Tamega not far from the town centre. The upstairs restaurant is tastefully decorated and the service was excellent. It is obviously a popular spot for locals, which is a recommendation in itself! The menu may not be huge, but the quality of the food and the size of the portions outweighs everything else. The starters were beautifully presented with an array of choice that almost made a meal in itself. The recommended choice of bacalhau cooked in bread with a cheese sauce was wonderful - the photos of the outside and inside do not do it justice. The local Vinho Verde was the perfect accompaniment to the meal! If you are visiting Amarante, a meal at Pobre Tolo is an experience you should not miss!
