About Porches Pottery
The fish has been a noted design by the Romans and early Christians throughout history and is representative of the Algarvian fauna. The plentiful flora of the region inspires the multitude of floral patterns available.
The Porches Pottery you can visit today has come a long way from its original wood burning kilns in a converted cottage, to its present location outside the town of Porches.
Patrick Swift himself maintained that the unconscious flow of brush work achieved by a days freehand painting created a masterpiece of free flowing design. Many of the founding employees remain as skillful artisans of Porches Pottery and create each unique piece. There are no stencils used in painting the hand thrown majolica ware. Porches Pottery has a strength and quality in its designs that lifts it above its competitors.
Patrick’s widow Oonagh Swift, seen below with her daughters and granddaughter, managed the pottery for more than twenty years and was involved with its creation from the very beginning.
Today Patrick’s daughters Estella and Juliet continue to manage the pottery and keep the traditions of Porches Pottery alive. Principally they design new patterns for the shop and work to commission, producing bespoke pieces. In addition to this they often work closely with clients creating individual work from initial sketches to tiled panels.

Many differently sized goods and types of goods, so you're quite sure to find something that will fit within your budget and your suitcase. :)
There is also a small cafe in case you want a small lunch while there.
Worth a visit, especially of you're into these kinds of crafts.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place was amazing! The pottery and ceramic tiles are gorgeous, you can see the artistry and passion for the craft in everything they do. Everyone, from the shop to the cafe were very friendly and warm. The cafe’s setting alone is magical but also had really good iced coffee and snacks (quiche and sandwiches). Really enjoyed our time here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good quality pottery and you can see the process on sight. My only criticism is there is little variety in the colours and patterns painted thereon. Perhaps it's just traditional. There are many items, plates, plates, plates, candle burners, tea pots of various kinds but they seem to be all the same.

It’s pocket friendly too.
