PT - PROJETO ROTAS DE MAÇÃO PR7-ROTA CASA DA RIBEIRA/CARATÃO Reza a lenda que as moiras encantadas usavam esta lagoa mágica para lavar o ouro. No caso desta lenda pode dizer-se que existe um fundo de verdade, de facto a água da lagoa foi utilizada no processo de extracção de ouro aluviar pelos romanos por volta do século I Dc. A forma de extracção consiste em deitar água de alguma altura sobre os terrenos de forma a separar o ouro dos materiais inertes. No final deste processo sobra um conjunto de pedras redondas que são retiradas do local de exploração formando as conheiras. No caso desta cache basta olhar à volta para ver os montes de pedras redondas. A maioria das conheiras estão colocadas perto de ribeiras, mas neste caso a central de extracção encontra-se numa lagoa. Sobre as instalações romanas foi construída já no século XX uma estrutura para extracção de inertes para uso na construcção civil, entretanto desactivada. As conheiras estão neste momento em processo de reconhecimento pela união europeia, prevendo-se para breve legislação que leve à sua protecção em toda a Europa.
