About Qpa Horse Riding
The West Coast Stopover is our shortened version of the Four Day West Coast Ride. It consists of two days of riding through magical countryside and a gallop along the beach!
Itinerary:
Day 1: approx. 4 hours riding
Aim to leave QPA around 10:30 after we have selected a suitable horse to fit your ability and preference. We will ride through the hills behind the farm to the edge of Bensafrim where we cross the main road to start heading west. After a couple of hours riding through the hills and pine forests, we have a picnic lunch at what we call the “chicken foot crossing”. Once recharged we start the descent down into the Valley of Rivers where we will cross the river 16 times before arriving in Carrapateira.
The horses will be staying near to Pensão Cato, where you will also stay or if no availability we will take you on down the track for 3kms to the village of Carrapateira, where you will stay in the friendly Pensão das Dunas which is situated between the dunes and the village. A short stroll from either accommodation will take you to an excellent restaurant to round off the day.
Day 2: approx. 5 hours riding
After a good breakfast, we will collect you and head back to saddle up the horses. You will then head further west to Praia da Bordeira – also known as Carrapateira beach – where we will cross the wide river to get onto the long stretch of sand (5km!) – the perfect location for a good beach gallop! The horses love this part of the ride and will make sure you do too! Once we have had enough wind and sea salt in our hair we will ride to the quaint village of Bordeira where you will have a light lunch before setting off up into the pine forests for the final stretch home. When we arrive back at QPA you are free to go for a swim in the pool and have a cold drink on the terrace.
**Please note our ability to do the beach gallop depends on the tides! It will either be added on to the end of Day one or be the start of Day two. Number of hours riding per day will change accordingly **

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I did the 1-hour countryside ride in which you ride up to a windmill. It was great to see the different countryside and the horses were very calm and in good condition. Our guide was great, very attentive and taught us about the different trees in the area which was a fun added bonus. We had a great time and I highly recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice place to work and stay. The horses are well taken care of. I've been there three times to work for a longer period of time and all times I've enjoyed it. During the Corona I also worked there to take good care of all horses. Had a great time with Jinny, Sue and Karis who always take good care of the horses and me ?. Beautiful rides in the area for everyone (beginners and advanced). Definitely recommended for work with horses and horse riding. ??

During our holliday we (daughter 11 and father) would like to make a 2 hour ride. I called in advance to make a reservation and drove there by rental car. Google maps showed me the way. The ride itself was fantastic. It is lovely to ride with your daughter even when the level of experience is that big. Follow the (english) instructions and enjoy the ride. They can supply a helmet for safety and Alice was kind enough to make some pictures
If you are in doubt going...... Don't hesitate and go!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a wonderful experience riding with QPA. Our Horses were completely bombproof, very calm and had a healthy glow. On our 2 hour ride we saw plenty of beautiful scenery, riding through vineyards, old farms and remote hilltops with lovely views. We also learned a lot about the flora of the area from our guide Alise. Alise was outstanding, she conducted the ride well, encouraging us to use the different gaits while remaining conscious of my sister's slight loss of confidence on horseback.
Google maps took us right to the stable so finding them was not a problem.
Overall a great experience and would highly recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ QPA is an unbelievably wonderful place to work or to visit, surrounded by breath-taking natural scenery, horse-riding here is a dream come true. Jinny, the owner, is truly one of the most friendliest, kindest, and most openly welcoming people I have ever met.
At QPA Jinny and her fabulous team love, help and care for over 15 beautiful horses. I spent 3 months with this unique bunch of human beings and have never come across more hardworking, determined, caring or helpful people, they were all an absolute thrill to work with and for. I can also say from personal experience that every single volunteer here is looked after and truly valued as part of the team just as every animal is looked after, nurtured and loved unconditionally.
Each beautiful horse (cat and puppy) at the centre have large open paddocks with lots of space to run, play or just stand and graze. In addition all the animals have distinctive personalities and characters which makes being here an exciting daily adventure. With each one filled with friendship, laughter and undeniably magnificent HORSEY MADNESS.
In short any person or animal who comes to QPA are all treated with the utmost respect, consideration and love. The time I spent at QPA with these stunning animals and Gorgeous Group of people (Jinny, Sue, Karis, Joyce and every single other person I met) flew by WAY too fast, and I can't wait until I can go back. Thank you so much Jinny, and the team You are FAB.
