★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We needed a way point to stop for lunch on our leisurely drive to the Algarve. Bill found O Porco Preto on google maps so we gave it a try. It was incredible. I had Polvo à Lagareiro and Bill had Pica Pau à Chefe. The octopus was grilled perfectly with a nice char. The texture was spot on. No overcooked, gummy octopus here at O Porco Preto! The smashed potatoes were also perfect. They were coated in salt and baked until they were creamy but still held their shape. As good as mine was, Bill’s was that much better. The pica pau was served fajita style, meaning it was a proper steak that was sliced and then served tossed with a wonderful mix of pickled carrots, tomato and grilled onion. The flavor was a 10 out of 10. And let us not forget the bread. It was just the local pão de alentejana but that is kind of like saying a steak was just local Kobe beef when eating in Japan. I still marvel at the quantity and availability of top notch bread in this country. If you are in Sines, come try O Porco Preto.
