Lisbon is a city constantly on the move. Trams, taxis, tourists twist and turn down cobbled streets, barely stopping for breath. With one exception. The tranquility and nervous hum of those waiting outside Taberna da Rua das Flores. Surrounded but Lisboas fire trucks, it is easy to miss, were there not an ominous cloud of patient smokers fogging the entrance. With a no booking policy firmly in force, the nervous anticipation of whether a seat has your name on it, whether you're Madonna (who used to call these streets her own) or a litter picker, is no guarantee. Expect a queue and get there early, otherwise you'll be cast aside like thousands before you. Somehow, two forgotten souls named "Smith" failed to arrive, so I slipped through the net like a Portuguese octopus that somehow avoided an inevitable grilling. With three waiters effortlessly choreographed, gliding through the room, and narrating the menu to perfection, the atmosphere was in perfect balance. Smiles, 'Mhmms' and 'clinks' were all to be heard, not a grimace in the place. The food, exceptional. We were fairly safe with the order, foregoing the pig's head "this time", as the pictures will show. The clams, which tasted so exotic that they must have been chard in the belly of Água de Pau and shipped over that very day, were a highlight. I also now have a taste for olive oil and chocolate mouse, not separately, but combined, with a salt referee keeping the flavours within the rules. This hallowed Taberna is highly recommend, unless you have all the patience of TikTok viewer, as good things surely come to those who wait. I would return as soon as I've joined the masses and done my turn bustling through the city. I give it 72hrs till I'm back. And thanks "Smith", all I can assume is that you've twisted your ankle on the city's cobbles like the hoardes hobbling on crutches. Dont mind if I obriga-do. G

“Wow!” - this sums it up. I was a bit annoyed with the wait time and I didn’t think it was worth it but I was proved wrong. The menu is not as it is in the normal restaurants but it is more than enough. The food is excellent and the service shined. All you need to know before heading there is that you need to have cash (always bring more than what you think you’ll need) and your appetite. Excellent! Recommend it with all my heart!

Extremely popular, the no-reservations Taberna Rua das Flores, is a quiet, intimate little oasis amid the hubbub of the city. Interior is fairly simple and casual with the food elevating the experience to amazing foodie levels . The servers, Anoushka and Salvador, were oh so patient and nice explaining the evening’s chalkboard-written menu . At the onset , we were told 4 petiscos(shared plates) for 2 people should be our limit, and if we were hungry maybe one more. We were so torn choosing only four and were glad we took her advice as we had a hard time finishing. Camarao a taberneiro 13e Large red shrimp in olive oil and parsley- so delicious we wiped the plate clean Puntilhitas Fritos com maionese de Codium 9e batter-dipped fried baby squid in Mayo aioli with seaweed - delicately fried paired well with a creamy sauce Espadarte Braseo com puri de couve Flor 14e Blue marlin with noisette butter - Surprisingly soft, flakey fish with a fantastic hazelnut creamed sauce Careta de Porco con Molho Gribiche 9e Pork cheek in sweet potato batter with sauce Deliciously Soft meat covered in crisp batter with a creamy sauce on top Decent prices for an amazing meal . Would definitely recommend!

No reservations. Appear early or leave your name on the waiting list (it’s worth it). Scallops were the best from what we have ordered. Alcatra fumada (smoked beef) was perfect. Toro unagui (tuna belly) was partially dry, it wasn’t the best choice. Shrimps were ok. Great wine card. Thank you for great evening. We will come back to try other dishes.

Fantastic dinner and easily our favourite and best meal in Lisbon! Be sure to get there early to get a seat because they don't take reservations. We showed up 15 min before 6pm on a weeknight.

It was our very first restaurant we went to for lunch as we arrived in Portugal for the first time and I can’t imagine a better introduction to local vibe, food, and restaurant scene. The place is small but cozy, waiters speak English and are super helpful explaining the menu and wine options. we had very good organic wine, mussels were cooked perfectly, and other appetizers were extremely fresh and delicious.

Simply one of the best meals I’ve had ever and definitely the best in Portugal. Cash only, prepare for a wait. I was dining solo so I got a seat immediately but it was on the stairs inside - not as bad as it sounds in terms of comfort. Cash only. Menu changes daily and is in Portuguese but the staff are extremely welcoming and explain the menu one by one in English for foreigners to understand. pork Neck, scallops and foie gras are all excellent . 2 or 3 plates is enough for one person.

This meal was a dream. Through & through. Worth the wait and every euro. The atmosphere is charming, the staff were friendly, and each bite was superb. Order a bottle of Serra Oca and enjoy yourself. Cash only. We’ll certainly be back!
