The Odemira Castle in Alentejo is located in the village of Odemira Freguesia de Santa Maria, Odemira Municipality, Beja District in Portugal. At the time of the Christian reconquest in the Iberian peninsula, the settlement was taken from the Moors in 1166, by the forces of D. Afonso Henriques under the reign of D. Afonso III, Vila received a charter proceeding to the reconstruction of its defense. Although information about it is scarce, it is believed that the primitive occupation of its site dates back to a Roman period, later occupied by Visigoths and Muslims who will have built a fortification. There are few vestiges of the castle and the walls of the Medieval Village, besides the most visible section, where the National library is located. These remnants are currently being classified by the Portuguese government.

Prachtig plekje!
Beautiful spot! If you want to take very nice pictures, it is recommended to do it around golden hour. Especially with the library attached to it. You can also see the bridge of Odemira from the library.
