It's a pleasant enough place for a walk through a small wetland on a raised wooden walkway. But not that many birds to be seen in February anyway.

The bird watching walk was a surprise to me, the location attracts a lot of locals with a wooden walkway over the lake and bird watching nest along the route. The path way was full of flying insects though which if it was made for tourist would have been a downer but the fact these insects are here makes this a.working Santuary for these local birds. Birds including stocks , flamingos, spoon bills, can all be found here though Binoculars is recommended.

Nice place to see, isolated & away from crowds going to beach. Shaded, with first floor terrace that you can climb to.

The wooden path through this areal is a real come back down. One can have a totally nice view across the area from the roof of the info spot (container), need to be careful because of the broken ladder. I loved the turtle feeding bridge at the entrance and I liked the variety of birds populating this water flooded terrain. I really would love to see a closer spotting point, a kind of bird trail near the big lake to let people even more feel and understand the beautiful nature of Portugal - it's awsome and it's free.

This review is specifically of the raised viewing platform, not the Salgados Lagoon. Formerly a great amenity it is suffering from disrepair and minor vandalism. There are some boards missing on the boardwalk over water to access the platform, and some dangerously loose next to the water. Most of the wooden steps covering the metal rungs on the ladder are now gone. Two rungs have completely rusted / broken away making it dangerous and difficult for all but the most able to climb. The upper level sways as people move around it. The lagoon is best observed from the main boardwalk or shore elsewhere.

Brilliant facility to walk along the dunes beside the bird sanctuary or reserve. An easy 2km walk only marred by dog fouling. Dogs should be kept under control here.
