Many choices for food and beverages, all well flavored and prepared. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The Café has an old world elegance which added to the experience. A worthwhile stop in Porto.

Nothing fancy but an excellent value for the price.

Asian be aware: the male waiter is a racist. We've been in many European places and restaurants in Span, France, and Germany, etc. This restaurant is the worst. We went there this afternoon. The male waiter was rude and arrogant, kept saying "hello" like ten times without any manner. We are Asian-Americans. We don't speak Portuguese. He was unprofessional and a racist. We had to left since we didn't feel welcomed. If the restaurant keeps the worker like this, good luck.

Nice old fashioned place with refined service to match. Reasonable prices but wine is expensive. the food was good enough. Not somewhere I'd rush back to every night but it really was quite ok

I had a not so great experience during lunchtime here. I have been to this Café for a quick breakfast -coffee with pastel de nata- before and everything went smoothly. So I ordered the other day the kale soup and the steak with mushrooms. The soup was delicious, but what I got as a main dish, was a piece of meat which wasn't very tasty, accompanied by pre-fried potatoes and some sad vegetables, that didn't look very good, with maybe 2/3 very tiny pieces of mushrooms in between them. The dish wasn't very appealing and I couldn't finish it. Waiting times were also long, as I stayed for 1.5 hour because they delayed the main dish for over 45 minutes (and it's not that the place was full or anything). I have to say that I pointed out the fact about the dish to the waiter, and he was very kind and apologized. However, the fact that the food didn't meet my expectations this time remains.

Food was too salty. The octopus rice was so salty that I could not take another bite. After the replacement octopus rice was proven not to be an improvement, I had to switch to the cod cakes with tomato rice (also salty, but much better than the octopus rice). The waiters were very nice and apologetic about my complaints, but great service and ambiance are only peripheral to the food.

Try the Guarany breakfast! This is the sister restaurant of the iconic Cafe Majestic around the corner. They both seem to have similar menus but Guarany is cheaper and usually less busier so try here if Majestic is too busy. Lovely staff and huge breakfast for €20. Food was ok, sausage, bacon and eggs were fine, pancakes were kind of gritty but pastries were lovely and the wine was a nice start to the day however they don’t have non-dairy milk options for coffee. I can imagine this is a bit of a tourist trap and most visitors aren’t necessarily here for food but I would still recommend for the decor and lovely and welcoming staff alone.

So glad we stopped here on our food tour! The decor and ambience was amazing. The torrada (buttered, toasted thick-sliced bread) and the brioche-croissant were both delicious. If you love chocolate, don't skip their hot chocolate! It honestly tastes like a cup of warm chocolate pudding. So good!
