This place is really out there from Lisboa which is where we were staying and the town was mostly unpopulated from what we could see but this has some of the most spectacular views we saw in Portugal. If you are in the area already I would definitely stop by and take a walk around the castle.

Located about 30kms from Lisbon and can be reached by train. Glorious natural beauty through the area. Entry is free. One can imagine the old glory of this castle still now.The sunset is just awesome.

Wow! So picturesque. Great roof top restaurants with views to die for. A real "must visit" location!

When you enter here you can only imagine the glory of when it was in it's golden age. Beautiful space but sadly the signs of age are well noticed and their deserved so much more care and investment. None the less the landscape all around it's breathtaking and you can walk in the walls to have a 360 degree vision. It certainly deserves your visit.

This castle is really gorgeous and you can see the beautiful landscape through it, but unfortunately it’s very degraded and abandoned which doesn’t make it less worthy to visit. The main problem is that there are some safety issues, for example, on the staircase, that I didn’t use, because some of the stairs were starting to fall apart, so I wasn’t able to see the top part of the castle and some of the views.

An old castle but with personality. Pity you can't walk around the ramparts. But the church nestled in it is quite alive during the Saint's fête.

The castle is free to enter and has parking just outside the main gate. It's a bit out of the way but you can see it on the hilltop for quite a distance and it is in very pretty countryside. The outer walls are intact and that's pretty much all there is. There are almost no buildings inside and you can't climb on the walls. There is no information other than a plaque by the church built into the walls. Good views though as you walk around.
