★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Quite a nice museum - larger than you might imagine for a city the size of Faro. Interesting Roman exhibits, albeit with rather facile accompanying text on the walls.
What let this visit down was the rudeness and prejudice of the woman at the ticket desk, making it very clear she doesn't like Brits and rates Poles perhaps even lower. Perhaps work on some people skills? I know you don't care.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sometimes I thought it was a museum of AC units... Theses equipments were in every room that it ruined my immerse tour.
Prepare yourself for confusion, some exhibition have so much information on the walls that it takes the joy (it just looks like poor creative work full massive texts, unclear labels and no images showing how some objects were used) and other spaces have nothing to explain the history behind the paintings (the bad lighting and maybe the poor conservation it's what ruins the exhibition)
The good thing is garden

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A really lovely museum. The archaeological collection is very significant, with artefacts from pre-historical, roman and medieval periods. Also the painting collection from the 16th to 19th century entails religious art, originating from ancient temples in the Algarve. The 20th century painting by Carlos Porfírio is also a very interesting bit. In addition just the building itself is an amazing piece of art. Highly recommend fed visit!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The museum has a lot of pieces from the Roman times, the Islamic occupation of the Iberian peninsula and the period after. There was also several poster and artworks covering the early film history in Europe. Apart from this, there was also live singers of the Fado tradition. The museum is situated within the old town and several walls are still standing that have been there for decades.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This museum was a great surprise! I wasn't expecting that much but the variety and quality of the exhibitions impressed me, all of that contained in a cute cloister on 2 floors.
The permanent exhibitions covers some archeological pieces, including a big mosaic masterpiece, and a collection of paintings from different European schools (mostly Italian and Portuguese).
The temporary ones were about French movies posters, beautiful paintings of horses, and something more modern but really interesting.
Everything is well explained, there was almost nobody, and the fee is ridiculous; 1e for student.
I recommend a stop if you're passing by Faro.
